Mining companies want to violate new Protected Areas status

In 2010, you helped us create a new Protected Area in Mongolia’s South Gobi to help safeguard snow leopards from mining. Our latest news from the area: the mining companies have started pressuring local officials to extend their licenses in violation of the local Protected Area status.

One way we can mobilize: help local community members and officials draft the official Management Plan required for this new Protected Area. US AID say, “Establishing a protected area requires more than simply setting aside a track of land for “protection.” A protected area requires a management plan to ensure that biodiversity is in fact protected.”
